Health Information

Virgin Galactic aims to make sub-orbital space accessible to anyone with a dream to view the Earth and experience microgravity. As with most adventure sports and experiences it is your choice to participate. However, Virgin Galactic's first priority is safety; of the vehicles, the crew and our passengers. Although we don't expect many medical restrictions to prevent people from flying, we will not jeopardize your safety if we believe you are at risk.

This will involve some pre-flight medical checks. Early indicators show that the required medical assessment will be simple and unrestrictive and that the vast majority of people who want to fly will not be prevented from doing so by health or fitness considerations. This was demonstrated by our Founder customers who took part in a centrifuge training activity which replicated the G-forces which will be experienced in flight. 81 customers took part in this activity, from age 22 to 88. 93% fulfilled the training successfully. Virgin Galactic is committed to making every effort to make space travel as inclusive as possible and get you up there.

Trip Overview

Become one of only a few to have left the Earth's atmosphere and help pioneer advancement in this historic industry.  The trip will be intense, exhilarating, and the more that can be simulated beforehand, the better the real thing will be.

When you deposit, you become a member of perhaps the world's most exclusive club, with privileged access to all aspects of the project as it progresses.

  •     Astronaut Forums with Sir Richard Branson
  •     Opportunities to tour Scaled Composites, viewing of real vehicles under development
  •     VIP invitations to media events to mark major milestones of the project

Your pre-flight preparation at Spaceport America will ensure that you are mentally and physically prepared to savor every second of your spaceflight.  Everything about your pre-flight and flight experience will be recorded and provided to you to relive the experience and share it with your family and friends.

Our goal is to provide you with the most incredible experience of your life!

3, 2, 1...Blast Off

The countdown to release, a brief moment of quiet before a wave of unimaginable but controlled power
surges through the craft. You are instantly pinned back into your seat, overwhelmed but enthralled by the howl
of the rocket motor and the eye- watering acceleration which, as you watch the read-out, has you traveling
in a matter of seconds, at almost 2500mph, over 3 times the speed of sound.

As you hurtle through the edges of the atmosphere, the large windows show the cobalt blue sky turning to mauve and indigo and finally to black. You're on a high; this is really happening, you're loving it and you're coping well.
You start to relax; but in an instant your senses are back on full alert, the world contained in your spaceship has completely transformed.

A Few Moments That Last Forever

The rocket motor has been switched off and it is quiet. But it's not just quiet, it's QUIET.
The silence of space is as awe inspiring as was the noise of the rocket just moments earlier.
What's really getting your senses screaming now though, is that the gravity which has dominated
every movement you've made since the day you were born is not there any more. There is
no up and no down and you're out of your seat experiencing the freedom that even your dreams underestimated.
After a graceful mid-space sumersault you find yourself at a large window and what you see is a view
that you've seen in countless images but the reality is so much more beautiful and provokes
emotions that are strong but hard to define.

The blue map, curving into the black distance is familiar but has none of the usual marked boundaries.
The incredibly narrow ribbon of atmosphere looks worryingly fragile.
What you are looking at is the source of everything it means to be human, and it is home.

The Descent

SpaceShipTwo's cabin will have lots of room for approximately 4-6 minutes of zero g fun.
Then you're back to your reclined seat and gravity is starting to return. The deceleration produces strong g forces,
but your lying down eases the intensity. You feel the feathered wings of the spacecraft producing a
powerful drag as the thickness of the atmosphere increases, although out of the windows it still looks like space.
The g forces quickly ease off and you hear the pilot announce the start of the glide home.

  1. Begin pre-flight preparation, bonding and training onsite at the spaceport. Learn how to make the most of your time in microgravity and how to be the most comfortable in macro gravity will form. We expect to use the WK2 carrier aircraft, which will feature a duplicate SS2 cabin, as an integral part of the preparation experience.

  2. Basic emergency response training, prescribed by our regulators will be at the forefront. Activities to familiarize you with the spaceflight environment will follow a close second.

  3. After two or three fabulous days of preparing with your crew – you're suited up and you're raring to go. The climb to 50,000 feet is marked with quiet contemplation but there's an air of confidence and eager anticipation.  This is the moment you've been waiting for!

Later that evening, sitting with your astronaut wings, you know that life will never quite be the same again.  Cheers!

Spaceport America, New Mexico

Virgin Galactic is headquartered and operates its space flights from Spaceport America, the world's first purpose built commercial spaceport which is now under construction. Spaceport America will provide cutting edge facilities and a wonderful location for fledgling astronauts to realize their dreams.

The facility has been designed by world renowned, UK based Foster + Partners who won an international competition to build the first private spaceport in the world.

The sinuous shape of the building in the landscape and its interior spaces seek to capture the drama and mystery of space flight itself, articulating the thrill of space travel for the first space tourists. Making a minimal impact on the environment, the scheme will be the first facility of its kind and a model for the future.

The Spaceport lies low within the desert-like landscape of the site in New Mexico and seen from the historic El Camino Real trail, the organic form of the terminal resembles a rise in the landscape. Using local materials and regional construction techniques, it is both sustainable and sensitive to its surroundings.
