Londolozi Celebrates 90 Years
The foundations of the Londolozi dream were shaped over eighty years ago when two friends – the great grandfathers of the Varty and Taylor clans stood before the mighty Sand River for the first time. Londolozi holds a very special position to us in this company as it is where Malaka & Ryan met. It was love at first sight for her. The moment she saw the tall, bush-dusty field guide in his khaki shorts and tall socks descending the stairs into the open air dining area of Bush Camp many years ago.
Under the dim light of hurricane lanterns hanging from the trees and flickering flames from the camp fire she snatched his attention and at dinner that night Africa’s power to connect worked its glorious magic on a wonderful introduction.
The day that followed this chance meeting included a game drive led by Ryan which resulted in a spectacular Cheetah Kill. In the photo to the right, you can see Ryan looking on with his long socks glowingly at the video Malaka captured of the kill, he was happy to review over her shoulder.
Londolozi turns 90 this year and in 2017 it will be 20 years since Ryan moved to the U.S.A. You can join Ryan for travel to Africa in 2017 as he escorts the Gulf Coast Connoisseur Club’s extended and refined Taste of South Africa Journey with Michael & Terri Klauber. (Maybe he will even wear those memorable tall socks)
