Admiral Travel International in the - local - news! (We also made the papers in Egypt, but that was "so last week" as they say.)
The Herald-Tribune Media Group's Retail & Tourism ReporterLaura Finaldi explains in today's Sarasota : "Because of a tech-savvy, educated client base, one-of-a-kind vacation packages and a personal touch you’re not going to get from a wholesale internet booking service, several travel agents and advisors in Sarasota said things are going strong and the future is bright."
Africa is the specialty of Admiral Travel International, Inc. of Sarasota. Owner Ryan Hilton was born in Zimbabwe, growing up on safari camps. He met his future wife, Malaka, on a safari 20 years ago — he was her guide — and thus, Admiral Travel was born. Malaka is half Egyptian — her father is originally from there — and her specialty is the Middle East.
Because of their specialty and focus on luxury travel, Admiral’s business isn’t as vulnerable to fluctuations in the economy as some others might be, Alexis Leeming, travel advisor and social media director for the company, said. Admiral’s real competition isn’t another travel agency at all — it’s that new Mercedes or house on a Key you may have been eyeing.
Admiral is the company behind the safari mentioned earlier. From May 9 through May 17, travelers will fly on a brand-new Crystal Skye private jet to a South African safari. The plane has fully-reclining flatbed seats, a dedicated stand-up bar and social lounge, a team of butlers and an executive chef who will prepare Michelin star-inspired dishes.
The trip will include tastings of one of the most curated collections of South African wines in the world, luxury accommodations and exclusive safaris.
Admiral’s business is of course susceptible to fluctuations, like the economic recession and the stock market, but for the most part, people seem to make travel a priority, Leeming said.
“I’m always amazed — whatever else is going on in the world, people will travel. I could be scraping the bottom of barrel. I will eat ramen as long as I can go on a trip,” she said. “It’s a source of happiness.”
