Presented in Association with the Churchill Centre
As a result of his adventures in South Africa, Winston Churchill has been described as “the James Bond of a century ago.”
Come with me as I retrace my grandfather’s footsteps in the most thrilling and dangerous moments of his life.
Like him, we will start our journey in Cape Town. From there, we will relive his time as a journalist and soldier on the battlefields of the Anglo-Boer War; visit the site of his capture by the Boers and the prison in Pretoria from which he escaped with a price of £25 on his head for his recapture DEAD or ALIVE.
We will stay at the world famous lodge of the Rattray family in KwaZulu Natal and hear the bloodcurdling stories of the Zulu War which fascinated the young Winston as a child. We will walk on the eerie hillside of Spionkop, the scene of a British massacre, where three great leaders, Churchill, Gandhi and Botha were within yards of each other in January 1900.
No visit to South Africa would be complete without seeing the incredible wildlife of this beautiful country. We will spend the last few days relaxing on safari in Phinda Game Reserve.
I hope that you will join me on what will I know be a wonderful holiday - full of fascinating history, interesting people, exciting experiences and pure enjoyment.
